KFCB Directs Gambling Firms to Submit Ads for Licensing.

Just hours after the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) suspended all gambling advertisements for 30 days, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) now wants gambling firms to submit their advertisements for classification and licensing.

According to the press release, gambling firms must acquire licenses for all recorded audiovisual advertisements through their Technical Management System (TMS) and ensure that each advertisement undergoes classification before airing. The agency also warns media companies not to broadcast unclassified gambling ads, according to the Films and Stage Plays Act (Cap 222).

This latest directive adds another layer of control over gambling-related advertisements, reinforcing the BCLB’s efforts to regulate how gambling firms engage with the public.
