The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has contacted more than ten traditional and digital media platforms, urging them to cease promoting unregulated online gambling and sports betting sites, such as Bodog, to Ontario residents.
Bodog, operated by Il Nido Inc., is an offshore gambling operator actively targeting Ontarians by advertising on widely viewed media channels. While the company has blocked access to its unregulated gambling platforms for users in provinces like Quebec and Nova Scotia, it continues to permit access for Ontarians and aggressively markets to them through traditional and digital media.

According to Ontario’s Gaming Control Act, 1992, online gambling operators like Bodog must register with the AGCO and enter into an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario to operate within the province.
Ontario’s regulated igaming framework includes stringent requirements related to game integrity, player protection, anti-money laundering, and data privacy. Bodog’s efforts to attract Ontarians to unregulated sites undermine the integrity and fairness of the province’s regulated market.
By broadcasting advertisements for Bodog and similar unregulated operators, legitimate media platforms lend credibility to these high-risk sites and contribute to public confusion. The AGCO is therefore calling on these platforms to take a firm stance against the promotion of unregulated gambling content and to immediately remove such advertising.
AGCO remains committed to working with partners in Ontario and internationally to address the challenges posed by unregulated online gambling and to protect the public interest.
